#245: What's the first thing you remember?

What's the first thing you remember?
Theatrical Muse

Hands. Warm hands. Wrapped around his own. Arms hugging him close. Heartbeat steady under his ear, soft puffs of breaths against the back of his neck.
The smell of gun oil and grease. The rumbles of the Impala’s engines. The scratchy, rough and worn motel sheets.

Soft whispers of “it’s okay, Sammy.”

The first thing he remembers is home because that was home. Wherever they were, those were the things that never left him.

He was the thing that never left him.

The first thing he remembers is Dean.

There’s the occasional glimpses of Dad – the smell of smoke and whiskey, and the soft scratch of his beard against his cheek – but always Dean, constant like the North star.

When he dies, the last thing he sees is Dean – and when he wakes again, his second waking (second life), it’s Dean that he sees.

His last thought, he knows, whenever that will come will be a thought of home. When he dies, he’ll remember everything – and then he’ll remember his brother.
